ETC Community from Near and Far

Eugene. Roseburg. Bend.

Washington. California. Idaho.

Canada. New Zealand. The Netherlands.

ETC’s latest world traveler is from Jerusalem, Israel.

Paula L. first learned to spin in New Zealand. She and her family moved to Jerusalem 10 years ago. Her son, Ben, still lives here in Oregon. A self-taught weaver, Paula has been making tallis (prayer shawl), but found she had a few gaps in her knowledge. Before flying out for this visit, she started researching weaving schools, fiber shops–somewhere to get a bit more information about how to play her loom better. On finding the Eugene Textile Center, she found a name she already knew–from reading Handwoven Magazine–Suzie Liles. Paula brought her son with, and now a new generation is sharing in her love of textiles. PaulaL Paula admires the¬†rich fiber communities we have here, particularly in the Pacific Northwest and the Northeastern United States. Of ETC she said, “It’s like your own mini sheep festival!” You can read about some of Paula’s weaving adventures on her blog: The Uneventful Warp On¬†Warping with Dogs Have some skills you’d like to brush up on?
